Lentini

Lentini, è citata da Aristotele come città tanto abbondante e feconda di pascoli e bestiame e da Cicerone per la cospicua produzione di frumento che una volta seminato "moltiplicava in cento doppi".

At the slopes of the Iblei Mountains rises Lentini or Leontinoi, one of the oldest cities in Sicily founded in 700 BCE by the Greeks and conserving remarkable archaeological remains of that period. After the earthquake of 1542, Carlentini was built in a more defensible and strategic position, today developed in continuity with Lentini; but the attachment to their own identity was so strong that the survivors of the earthquake did not want to move to the fortified city of Carlentini and started the new nucleus of Lentini, creating the new city.

The main attractions in the city include a visit to theMuseo Archeologico, followed by a trip to the Lentini lake or Biviere di Lentini, the largest artificial basin in Europe, an ecological oasis of great interest, together with the Giardino delle Biviere, a rich orange orchard and a variety of succulents. A nice bike ride to the lake is recommended, in order to discover the many species of fish and birds present, including the red heron and the cinereous heron.

The red orange, the lemons, the "Pan di Lentini" and the frogs constitute culinary delicacies not to be missed. Lentini, today, due to its closeness to the Catania airport, the railway station of a certain importance and the nearby highway that connects Catania and Siracusa, represents one of the main access points to the Iblei area and therefore is an important intermodal node.

The Lentini Hub is interested in the "La Via dei Laghi" route, and it is the starting and ending point of the path with a GATE located at the Railway Station. The first stage brings you to the GATE in Scordia after 20.8 km and 187 meters of difference in height. With the last stage n°11, you arrive in Lentini from the POINT in Carlentini after only 4.2 km and no significant difference in height.
